About the Role

Working closely with colleagues across the Litigation team the successful candidate will enjoy challenging and high profile work. You will be responsible for dealing with day to day matters and workloads in the BVI litigation practice of the firm, working closely with senior management in the BVI office, as well as globally.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • To undertake all work including, inter alia, the settling of pleadings, preparation for hearings, provision of advice, negotiation, conferencing and representation of clients in the Commercial Division of the High Court and the High Court, Court of Appeal and the Privy Council as required by the litigation partners, to excellent professional standards
  • To demonstrate substantial experience of legal work within the post holder's area of responsibility and ability to demonstrate significant specialism or depth of knowledge in a particular area relevant to the needs of the Firm's client base
  • To provide the highest quality legal advice to clients and colleagues on such matters as required by the clients and/or the litigation partners from time to time
  • To provide advice to clients and to the firm on changes in legislation and case law that may have an impact on litigation or advice given and to keep up to date with new and proposed legislation, new cases and other developments, which may have an impact on clients
  • To make a professional evaluation of all legal aspects with supervision and guidance
  • To present complex arguments before courts, tribunals, committees or sub-committees with excellent results
  • To liaise effectively with clients and instil confidence and trust in respect of service provision
  • To undertake tasks and casework as allocated by the litigation partners and in accordance with instructions
  • To liaise with professional bodies, research institutions, counsel and other external organisations as required from time to time
  • To assist in the development of and to operate and be conversant with all technology systems used for the work of the litigation team

EXPERIENCE

What You Bring

The successful candidate's qualifications and experience should include:

  • Between 3-6 years' post qualification experience
  • Highly relevant advocacy experience in complex international commercial litigation, contentious cross-border insolvency and/or restructuring matters from a recognised leading law firm in a major onshore or offshore jurisdiction or chambers
  • Higher Rights of Audience qualification and experience would be preferable.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, legal research and strategy development skills
  • Outstanding drafting and technical skills
  • A strong academic background
  • A proven ability to provide timely and commercial advice to clients
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team, lead and supervise junior associates and take an active part in sharing knowledge and experience within the team

Candidate must be admitted to practice law in the British Virgin Islands, England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland. This post also requires significant attention to detail, professionalism, ability to multi-task, and excellent organisational and prioritisation skills. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to adhere to internal policies and procedures.
